Have you ever been in a situation where you were so at a loss that you couldn't see your way ahead? All you could do was "the next thing"? It is such a lonely position. Even though your heart may be firmly fixed on God and His promises by faith, you cannot see any evidence of Him at work in your life. Today we find Ruth in just such a situation. She is in a foreign country, living with her mother-in-law, with no husband and no money, and she must find work in order for she and Naomi to survive.
I'm sure the day looked like any other to her as she headed out to find a field where she wouldn't be chased away as she gleaned a few sheaves behind the reapers. She was only "doing the next thing" faithfully... and God did the rest.
Ruth 2 in the King James says that "her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz." I love that! She "just so happened" to end up in a field owned by her kinsman redeemer, caught his eye and in time became his wife. A day that started out in hopelessness was actually just a thread in the tapestry of Ruth's life. A life that ended up in the lineage of Christ Himself. Who but our God could orchestrate that??
Don't you just love the fact that God is in control of your life? It is such a blessing to me to be able to place my worries into His hands and just "do the next thing" that He has given me. What is on your mind today? Are you struggling to see His hand in your life?
Continue to faithfully "do the next thing", whether that is doing the dishes, cleaning the litter box or blessing your family with a crockpot meal for supper, and He will continue to weave the tapestry of your life to His glory.
